I've been a very bad girl today :)

Today has been a very interesting day, for me anyhow.  I had to drive my grandmother 70 miles to deal with some insurance thing (which sucked and was not how I wanted to spend my day), but on the way home I saw this little nursery that had just opened up. . . .   Anyhow I bought 4 orchids.  Yes, 4. . . I couldn't decide between them. Go figure!

The 4 that I purchased are: ( I'll post pics soon)

1. BLLRA. Marfitch ' Howard's Dream - a cute little Intergeneric hybrid

2. ODCM. Wildcat ' Green Valley' -  Beautiful Oncidium

3. Blc. Fritz Nicholaus ' Spring Dance' Lavender - Beautiful purple Cattleya

4. (Lc. Edgar vanBelle x C. Intermedia) x Blc. Magic Meadow 'Green Genius 4n' -  Stunning Green cattleya with a pink lip

Rescue's Keiki :)

This is the 2nd of the rescues that surprised me this week.

This little guy was one of my very first rescues.  I had actually given up on this one and had stuck him in a corner with a bunch of empty pots.  I've basically ignored him for the last month or so.  Anyhow, this morning I went looking for a small pot and found this.  Yeah!!!!!

Rescue Bloom

I'm sorry that I haven't blogged in a few days, but I haven't been able to login. :(

Anyhow, two of my rescues surprised me this week.  :)   I've been babying  this one for a couple of weeks, and it's finally paid off.  I am very pleased with this little NOID.  Beautiful color  :)

This is a Glorious Sight :)

Today was watering day, and I was checking some of my rescues that I haven't looked at recently . . . and this is what I saw.   Just take a look at those beautiful roots. There's a couple more new tips on the other side.  :)

P. Long Pride Green Pixie

A really good friend of mine called me this morning from a Lowes in Dallas, she went shopping for some palms for her patio, and called me telling me that they had one little mini that was the only one they had alive. She said that they had 10 or so that were nothing but roots and just this one lonley little mini that was nice and green.

So guess what. . .

Yep, she bought her for me.  I should have her tomorrow.  Just what I needed - RIGHT  :)

Crown Rot Week 2

It's been two weeks since I noticed crown rot on my Orchiee Papillon, and there's still no change. I'm still hopeful that this one will pull through.  :)

I'm going to try and get some updated pictures of this one this weekend.

Rescued Orchid (New Bud)

One of my rescued Mini Phals has a new bud.  I've been watching this NOID for a couple of months and I'm excited to see some progress.   :)

This particular phal is located:
                                   Mini #5
                                   Unit 2 / shelf 2 / row 3b
                                   Substrate:  s/h

Encyclia Profusa Blooms

My Encyclia Profusa's buds opened this morning.  When I got home from work, I found it upside down in the floor. So, most of the blooms are crumpled.  I'll try and get some better pics later.

OMG New Rescues :(

Ok, I'm just going to quit going to Lowes all together.  I'm an addict .  Actually, this time was a little different, a friend called and told me that they had some nice looking plants on their "half-dead" rack and that she had bought 4.  So, I went down there and came out with 4 nice plants with great roots for 90% off. Actually, one pot has two large phals in it.

I also got a surprise with one of these. I found a mealy bug while I was repotting.  CRAP!!! I guess that's what you get for 90% off.  Anyhow, I rubbed everyone down with alcohol. I found 4 actual bugs (hopefully I got them all). I'll continue to check daily.

This is the only one that I got with a tag.   This guy is Haur Jih Diamon x Brother Lawrence.  I honestly can't find anything wrong. I did remove the spike, but I do that with most of my rescues anyhow.  :)
This is a nice looking mini.
This is my mealy bug carrier. a beautiful plant that has a new leaf emerging and several new roots.

This is the plant that has two phals in it. It looks like it's two individual plants rather than a keiki. I'm very curious to see what this one becomes.  Oh, I did separate them b/c both plants were too large for the one pot

Haraella retrocalla (odorata) New Bud

I'm so excited!!!  I've been watching a new spike emerge from this little guy for weeks now, and FINALLY we have a new bud.  Yay!!!!

Epidendrum ibaguense

I've had this kid one for a couple of months now, and I really can't believe that I haven't blogged about her.
Anyhow, this kid has since lost her blooms, but is showing a couple of sheaths. So, hopefully soon we;ll have some new flowers.  :)

I bought this one at a local nursery, and honestly I wasn't even looking for orchids. I was really shopping for some black elephant ears for my patio, but being me. . . . I just had to buy the orchid.  Atleast for the time being. . . she's living on my patio (I'm pretty much out of room, and this plant is rather large). Oh, and I really don't know why I left the tag on this one.

Some of my rescued Phals. UPDATES

This is one of my rescues that was in pitiful condition when I got it. It has a new leaf that has been growing nicely. I found this pot or whatever it is at my grandmothers and I just couldn't wait to plant something in it. Also, this one has several new root tips since it was moved to s/h.    :)
This is one of my many shelves of rescued phals. Some are in s/h while others are in a fir bark/ perlite/ and charcoal mix. Everyone is doing pretty good.

These two pics are of the same plant. I just wanted to show the new leaf that has just emerged and the new root that is moving through the media.

I really like the s/h media, it's been a nice adjustment.

Blue Mystique Blooms

I just wanted to share a couple  of new pics of my blue mystique.

I've been watching this one as the buds continue to open. Watching as the blooms continue to revert back to white.  I, personally think the white with blue spots are even more striking than the solid blue.

Dtps. (Taisuco Happyfire x Chian Huey Red Rose)

This is such a beautiful plant. The pictures just don't do her justice.

Dtps. Fuller's Sunset

This is one of my two new additions.  They both came from Kroger as part of their Mother's Day specials.  The pot that this one was in was badly cracked and the moss had to go, plus I inherited several pots from my grandmother that I have been wanting to use.

Anyhow, this beauty has three spikes and each one has several blooms.  She just beautiful  :)

New Aditions

I went today with the intentions of getting ONE new phal.  I felt that one particular color was missing from my growing collection, a red one.  Well, I got a red one and a beautiful yellow one.  :) I think I need to go to Orchids Anonymous  :)

I'll post some pics later today

Semi-Hydroponic Week 1

So, it's been 6 days since I transfered 8 plants over to semi-hydroponics, and so far everyone is doing well.   I haven't noticed any stress or decay with any of them, so I'm pretty pleased with my choice.

Hopefully next week will still be good :)

Crown Rot Week 1

It's been one week since I noticed the crown rot on my Orchiee Papillon, and so far there hasn't been any change.  Hopefully that turns out to be a good thing since it hasn't deteriorated more.

I did removed all of the buds, blooms, and spikes that were left hoping to give the plant the chance to heal.

Semi-Hydroponic

I've been doing a lot of research into s/h lately. I have a couple of my rescues that have new root growth and I really want to switch over.

Anyhow, today I purchased some Hydroton from Texas Hydroponics and I'm going to give it a go.  Hopefully they do well.

Crown Rot

Today sucked.  I came home from being out of town for the weekend to find that several of my plants had lost blooms (which is expected for some) and one of my favorites (P. Orchiee Papillon) has crown rot.  It was quite a shock since I'm sooo careful with my watering and so forth.

So, I spent most of this evening trimming away the black tissues and hopefully it won't be fatal.  I'll post updates soon.
